Jesus Christ Super Star comes to the Palace Theatre

“The great Tim Rice/Andrew Lloyd Webber musical is breathtaking - for me, still their best work, full of ambition, musical power and fierce rock rhythms.”

First exploding on to the Broadway Stage in 1971 and earning five TONY Award Nominations, one of the greatest musicals of its time is making its way to The Palace Theatre this October.

Inspired by the political and personal struggles between Judas Iscariot and Jesus Christ, this spectacular musical follows the final week of the life of Jesus, beginning with preparations for his arrival in Jerusalem and ending with his crucifixion.

Originally written as a concept rock-opera album by Andrew Lloyd Webber and Time Rice, Jesus Christ Superstar has become one of the greatest musicals of its time.

Now forty years on from its debut, Little Theatre Company are proud to bring the show to the Palace Theatre in October, with unforgettable songs including: Hosanna, Gethsemane, Everything’s Alright, Don’t Know How to Love Him and the title song itself, Superstar!

Director, Dave Lobley said:

“Jesus Christ Superstar is first and foremost a great musical which gave birth to the phrase rock opera. It is the passion and power of the relationships and the music that have given it it's lasting success. This set against a backdrop of struggles against oppressive militaristic regimes makes the show as relevant today as when Jesus was alive.

Whatever your views on the bible Jesus felt his suffering as a man whose life and death have become one of the most significant chapters in the history of the world.”

LTC Chairman, Tim Cater added:

““When we were first granted the rights to perform this musical, I was a little nervous and wondered if we had made the right choice as it is a massive production and comes with such high expectations. This feeling was quickly extinguished when a whole host of truly talented, eager and excited LTC members stepped forward to produce and appear in it.

The rehearsal period has been extremely different for the company: unlike most musicals, Jesus Christ Superstar is all singing and practically no spoken dialogue. I do know however, that the whole team has enjoyed it immensely and are extremely excited to be performing it.”

Little Theatre Company was formed in 1948 and staged it’s first production in 1949. Since then has gone on to present 110 musicals and 3 UK amateur premiers, winning 14 NODA awards.
